I absolutely love parody and satire. I love Forbidden Broadway because it is filled with just that. The lyrics are witty and totally mock (lovingly) some of the ridiculous people and characters on Broadway. Of course satire is only funny when one is familiar with the thing being mocked. I have a playlist on my iTunes of a song and then the Forbidden Broadway version of it.
The Tony Awards last week felt like a parody of bad theater. From all the bad sound to the highly commercial performance numbers, it was not nearly the kind of awards show it should have been. Everything was so campy and did not make me want to see very many of the shows being represented. There were so few performances that I was impressed with.
But there was one. Neil Patrick Harris, who hosted the awards, had his own brilliant 11:00 number at the end of the awards where he did a re-cap of the night to "Tonight" from West Side Story and "Luck Be a Lady" from Guys and Dolls. Here is my very own Forbidden Broadway parody of his song. Enjoy!
